Howell XR LLC (“we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use Language IRL, a VR language-learning app available on Meta Quest.

By using Language IRL, you agree to the data practices described in this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Language IRL collects only the limited data necessary to operate core language-learning features. This may include information classified as personally identifiable under Meta’s policies.

We collect or process the following:

Voice Recordings

  • Captured via the headset microphone.

  • Sent to Azure Cognitive Services for speech recognition.

  • Not stored by us or Azure.

Device Information

  • Headset model

  • Operating system version

  • Basic performance metrics (e.g., frame rate, crash logs through Sentry)

This helps us maintain app stability.

Region and Age Metadata

  • Provided automatically by Meta to ensure age-appropriate access (13+).

We Do NOT Collect:

  • Names

  • Email addresses

  • Contact information

  • Real-world location (GPS, city-level data)

  • Camera or passthrough images (processed locally only)

  • User-generated content

  • Gameplay analytics (lesson progress, time played, feature usage)

  • Meta User IDs

  • Any data not explicitly listed above

Language IRL is designed to operate with minimal data collection.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

  • Enable speech recognition features

  • Support core functionality of the app

  • Diagnose crashes and performance issues

  • Maintain app stability and compatibility

We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.

3. Third-Party Services

Language IRL uses the following service providers:

Azure Cognitive Services (Microsoft)

  • Processes voice recordings to convert speech into text.

  • Does not store audio or transcripts; processing is transient.

  • Operates strictly under our instruction.

Sentry

  • Collects anonymous crash logs and performance data.

  • Does not collect personal identifiers or gameplay content.

  • Used solely for debugging and improving app stability.

We do not use Photon, multiplayer services, analytics SDKs, or ad networks.

We do not sell, license, or share user data with advertisers or unrelated third parties.

4. Data Security

We take privacy seriously and use industry-standard security practices, including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+)

  • Limited access to any diagnostic data

  • No long-term storage of personal data on external servers

While no system is perfectly secure, we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Language IRL retains only minimal, short-lived data needed for app functionality and crash diagnostics.

Voice recordings are never stored.

We retain no user profiles, progress, or content.

6. Children’s Privacy

Language IRL is intended for users 13 and older.

We do not knowingly collect or store data from children under 13.
 If we become aware that such data was collected, we will delete it promptly.

  • Request deletion of data we hold about you

  • Request access to data we hold about you

  • Request correction of inaccurate data

  • Object to certain kinds of processing

Since Language IRL collects minimal data and stores almost nothing, most requests can be completed quickly.

Continued use of Language IRL after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
